Layering
Another fashion is my passion post and a track to dance/wash-up to in your kitchen.
I realise I’m late to the layering party, most fashion led folk will have written something about layers about three months ago, however, I did mention in my first post of the year that I love to layer, so, grasping any excuse to waste time browsing the websites of my favourite fashion retailers, I thought I’d share what I‘ve found.
I realise I am probably stating the obvious but the joy of wearing a number of thin layers is way comfier than a thick, bulky garment. Also, again obviously, it allows flexibility to peel off as and when, which is quite the requirement presently as temperatures seem to be a bit up and down.
Top prize for layering attire must go to ME +EM as the garment construction of their layering tops simply works. The body of the shirt is a soft lightweight jersey providing a thin, smooth layer that’s comfortable to wear, while the decorative details are placed strategically so they can been seen layered under knitwear.

This one is probably more me and as it’s sleeveless, one could go an extra layer beneath it on cooler days.
I know, I know, ME+EM are quite spendy, but as I am sure I have mentioned before, the cost per wear equation needs to be taken into account. I am not, however a candidate for those featured below, the elaborate cuffs are not going to suit my lifestyle or my clumsy trait.

Other layering tops are available! Here are some that have been on my radar.
Uniglo have a great selection. These are a cashmere blend in scoop, crew or turtle neck styles and in a good range of colours.

Similar below from Busby and Fox, a little independent clothing brand that I feature often. They are good at thin layers, coats, jackets and accessories, with an actual shop near enough for me to visit in Truro.

M&S have loads, here are three from a range they call second skin.

Some dotty ones, if you’re bored of plain here and here again from Next

Obviously a simple white cotton T-shirt is the simplest most direct layer to start with – some great advice here from Anna Eleri Hart on the criteria for purchasing a great cotton Tee.
I was going to start talking about waistcoats, another layer I love in all their forms; knitted, tailored, denim or leather (though one has to be careful not to stray into Status Quo territory) but I fear I may have crossed the boredom threshold of those readers not so interested in clothes so I’ll stop here.

Note; if you have a fancy dress party looming, going as The Blues Brothers is one of the easiest fancy dress costumes to rustle up and so cool, unlike most fancy dress. I wrote about this before here.
